Project Description

  • The project is a 60-minute, high-definition documentary film entitled The Stagecoach Bar: An American Crossroads.
  • It is being produced by a local team headed by Jennifer Tennican, of JenTen Productions LLC, under the auspices of the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum (JHHSM).
  • Using varied and compelling characters, the film will explore the history of a long-time community watering hole, The Stagecoach Bar.
  • The documentary film will explore how changes over time at The Stagecoach Bar reflect societal and other changes locally and beyond.

Objectives

  • To produce a documentary whose quality and themes make it suitable for distribution to local and national Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) stations.
  • To build knowledge and understanding of an iconic element of local history and to set this history into a larger humanities context.
  • To address humanities themes such as history, folklife/folklore and social sciences.
  • To preserve local traditions for future generations by archiving research materials and the final film with the history museum.
  • To engage the Jackson Hole community in sharing their personal histories and archival materials (photographs, slides, film, ephemera, etc.).

Funding

  • The program’s total budget, $152,000, includes pre-production, production and post-production.
  • The program has been awarded grants from the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, the Wyoming Humanities Council, the Wyoming Arts Council, the Wyoming State Historical Society and the Wyoming State Historical Records and Advisory Board for a total of $18,000.
  • Private donations total approximately $110,000 to date.
  • Additional funding sources include: the Wyoming Film Office, Independent Television Service (ITVS), individuals, local foundations and businesses.
  • The four individuals or entities that make the largest donations will be designated underwriters and will receive a 15-second credit (both audio and video) in an opening and closing underwriter credit sequence.
